Kaitlin Catherine Dance Collective
Our MISSion:
Kaitlin Catherine Dance Collective’s mission is to empower artists by facilitating, educating, and creating work that focuses on how movement can be used as a way to care for ourselves and others. Through community care, we believe that our ability to love and support each other is infinite. By investing in ourselves and our community we hope to pave the way to a more equitable and sustainable future for all dancers.
Meet the Founders:
Co-founders Kaitlin Hill and Catherine McConnell met during their time at SUNY Brockport and have since moved to NYC where they have pursued freelance dance careers. In navigating the challenges of day job vs. dream job they discovered a craving for more dance spaces centered on community, healing, and play. The Kaitlin Catherine Dance Collective, KCDC, was born of this craving.
Our Values:
Community Care | Empowerment Through Movement | Financial Literacy
Choreography:
KCDC creates original choreography through a feminist lens that comes directly from our lived experiences. We choose to move through difficult subject matter that relates directly to the ugly and often hidden parts of ourselves. Using improvisation and creative writing, we push ourselves to take emotional risks and be more honest. Each piece we create explores a different side of our movement style and reflects the multitudes that exist within us.
Improv Jams:
KCDC’s monthly Community Improv Jams are a space for us to delve deeper into our improvisational practice, build community with other movers, and prioritize our self care. Our jams provide a somatic experience for all participants, no experience required, and are informed by Dance Movement Therapy and Authentic Movement principles. Each jam is different and tailored to the present group with opening and closing circles to make introductions, set intentions, and reflect.
Financial Literacy:
KCDC believes in promoting financial literacy and transparency within the arts. Through financial seminars, roundtables, and the distribution of resources, we hope to demystify personal finance, especially within the non-traditional employment structures often found in the arts space.
